Six sites with diverse agricultural conditions were selected for the initial phase of the project and trials were started at each of these sites in 2007.

Phandulwazi Agricultural School   Crops

The Pandulwazi Agricultural School is located in the upper Tyume Valley on the way to Hogsback. It has a large farm attached to it that is used for demonstration and teaching purposes. The farm is underutilised and the company plans to convert a large part of it to essential oils production.

Auckland Village, Upper Tyume   Crops

The village of Auckland is a communal area in the upper Tyume Valley where large areas that were previously cultivated are now underutilised.

Bold Point farm, Hogsback   Crops
Bold Point farm, at the top of Hogsback, is a municipal commonage that is adjacent to a planned low-income housing development. It is cold and exposed in winter, and has a very high annual rainfall.

Cathcartvale, Upper Kat River Valley   Crops
Cathcartvale is a village outside Seymour in the Upper Kat River Valley. The valley is hot and dry in summer, with sandy soils and a nearby dam.

Lushington   Crops
The villages that constitute Lushington lie between Seymour and Pandulwazi and also contain communal land that was previously cultivated and is now underutilised. The area has a high rainfall.

Burnshill irrigation scheme   Crops
The Burnshill irrigation scheme lies on the Keiskamma River and is part of the larger Zanyokwe irrigation scheme. The land is owned by individual farmers, and is coordinated by a cooperative.
